Kathryn creates work that showcases the exterior of the human body through the manipulation of the environment around it or through the distortion of the figure itself. Often calling their pieces skins or garments, they cover the figure either making the human form more present in space, or altering it altogether. Through creating a separate physical form, Kathryn can create a diary of the events in life by reflecting on the memories of individuals, experiences, and places encountered.

Often, this process leads to a partial or complete disguising of the original self. While not the entirety of a person’s humanity can exist in a single extra layer, the absence of certain personal aspects highlights all that we hide and all we do not speak of. The additive layers created, while more telling of a person’s inner self and history, still connect to the aspect of subtlety and secrecy of humanity. Even with all you see on this new layer, there is still so much that you don’t see, including much of the original human form.
